Actor, Director, Choreographer, & Playwright

Originally from Hong Kong, Wai Yim is an actor, director, choreographer, and playwright. He is the Managing Director of Token Theatre in Chicago. As a trilingual artist who speaks Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, Wai has been active in the Chicago theater scene since 2012.

He recently appeared in Mary Zimmerman’s The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C. Chicago credits include: A Christmas Carol, The White Snake, The King of Hell’s Palace, Postnation, King of the Yees (Goodman Theatre); Chimerica (TimeLine Theatre); ZAC EFRON (Token Theatre); and Speaking of Then (Silk Road Rising). Regional credits include: The White Snake (The Old Globe, McCarter Theatre, Wuzhen Theatre Festival in China); The Oldest Boy (Unicorn Theatre); Nomad Motel (Horizon Theatre Company). Film credits include: North of the 10 and Fatal Influence: Like, Follow, Survive. TV credits include: Work in Progress, The Chi, Power Book IV: Force, neXt, Chicago PD, and Patriot. His semi-autobiographical play, The Emperor and The Fool (Chronicles of the House of Yim), was workshopped at BLUEBARN Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska.
