Tommy Carroll
Tommy Carroll is a drummer, composer, and beatmaker who happens to be totally blind. He leads Calculated Discomfort, an eight-piece jazz dance collective that performs throughout the city. In his work, Tommy draws on dance music and improvisation to create a soundtrack for a more inclusive world. Described by the Chicago Reader as a “workhorse drummer,” he has toured nationally as a sideman for songwriters, rappers, and rock bands. Tommy assembles groups of musicians from different musical backgrounds to help the music reflect lived experience. His most recent album, Dances for Different Bodies, Vol. I, is his version of a sonic tribute to disability culture.
