Stephanie Alma
Stephanie Alma is a self-taught singer, songwriter, and producer born and raised in Chicago. She is interested in the sounds of disability identity and self-awareness through formal and informal vocal expression. Her vocal melodies reflect her deep connection to Mexican music and R&B/Jazz. Feelings of empowerment and rejuvenation surround her lyric writing. Stephanie identifies as a Mexican American, disabled, woman who interprets cycles of grief and healing, life and death, emotions, and emptiness through sound.
She is currently working on an EP consisting mainly of vocals with drums and percussion. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Disability and Human Development from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in 2018 and worked at the UIC Disability Cultural Center, where she explored disability culture and met with other disabled artists and educators who have influenced her work.
