ebere agwuncha (b.1997, Chicago) is a designer, maker and artist currently based in Chicago via Nigeria. She earned an Industrial Design degree from Iowa State University in 2019, and has since been working on several interdisciplinary projects extending into community building, space activation and care advocacy. they are currently a part of the place keeping initiative - in c/o: Black women as a contributor, facilitator, and designer. she has also worked with local groups including Norman Teague Design Studios, ‘Mobilize! Creative Blocks, Collective Dreams’, Alt_, Okpara House, and The Buxton Initiative.
as an institutionally taught designer practicing in the field since early 2020, ebere is now adapting an artistic practice involving ‘care filled object(s)’ while channeling an igbo-nigerian heritage. with a hands based practice in the mediums of wood and ceramics, she aims to preserve Igbo stories through more expansive iterations using old and new techniques to craft speculative installations activated with hybrid rituals. ebere is also interested in the restitution of art objects from the African Diaspora, and how to reclaim (metaphorically or physically) the items currently stored in institutional archives that may descend from her blood relatives.
