Billie Howard
Billie Howard is a pianist, violinist, and sound artist who composes experimental music that focuses on breathing cycles, chronic pain, and mediation with both quiet and extremely loud sounds. Under the name Akosuen, Billie is at work on a trilogy of recordings for different instrumentations. At Sea: five movements for violin was released in 2019 followed by In Flux (for piano + drum) in 2021. A final work for chorus and strings will be available in 2022.
Billie is a member emeritus of the contemporary music collective a.pe.ri.od.ic. and the experimental improvisation group NbN Trio. In addition to classical music and improvisation, she writes and performs with her band The Paver and plays keyboards and violin with Bobby Conn. She holds a Master of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Northwestern University and Bachelor of Art in piano and violin performance from Montana State University.
