Anthony Irons is an actor, writer, and director. He received his BA in theater from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his MFA in acting from Penn State University. Anthony is a proud ensemble member of both Congo Square Theatre Company and Lookingglass Theatre Company. In addition to these incredible artistic homes, he has directed or performed at The Second City, Goodman Theatre, Shattered Globe Theatre, Court Theatre, and Kane Repertory Theatre. He’s received a Black Theatre Alliance Award and two African American Arts Alliance Awards. Film/TV credits include The Big Leap, Southside, Chicago Med, Empire, Chicago Fire, Gold Coast, Let’s Go to Prison, and Gossamer.
In 2014 he created Tales from the Blackside, Congo Square Theatre’s first sketch comedy revue. Six years later, he created and currently directs its spiritual successor, the webisode series, Hit ‘em On The Blackside (HOTB). Like his other work, HOTB embraces strong themes of social justice. The series posts on Congo Square Theatre’s YouTube and Facebook pages. When he’s not performing or directing, he enjoys working other creative muscles. One of Anthony’s latest projects is an original sci-fi board game where players co-op to end racism!
