Andrea Coleman
Andrea Coleman (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, art administrator, and Creative Director based in Chicago who utilizes the mediums of paint, fabric, and personal archive throughout her practice. Heavily inspired by her suburban upbringing, animation art, and mural concepts, her work currently explores how aura and narrative work together to interpret acts of reminiscing and honoring. Coleman earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago. She is an Idea Award recipient of the Art and Art Activism organization, a recipient of the A+T Seed Grant and an awardee of the Red Bull Arts Microgrant. Coleman was a previous artist-in-residence of Chicago Artist Coalition and was named as one of the NewCity Art’s Breakout Artists for Chicago’s Next Generation of Image Makers of 2021. Andrea is also a Co-member of CBIM (Concerned Black Image Makers), a collective of Black artists, thinkers, and curators that prioritize shared experiences and concerns by lens based artists of the Black diaspora.
