Sydney Chatman
Sydney Chatman is an educator, director, producer, writer, and founder of the Tofu Chitlin’ Circuit. She was accepted into the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) Observership Program for the Broadway Revival and Tony-nominated play The Trip to Bountiful starring Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams, and Cuba Gooding Jr. She is a directing fellow with the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, an associate member of the SDCF, a board member of the African-American Arts Alliance of Chicago, a member of the Black Theater Network, and featured in the book Black Theater is Black Life: The Oral History of Black Theater in Chicago from 1970s-2000. Sydney is a 15-year theater teacher at the University of Chicago Charter School. Her artistic vision is committed to developing visceral and poignant work that gives displaced and marginalized communities, specifically women and girls, an empowered voice.
