Rachel Bunting started making dance as "The Humans" in 2002. Her work uses objects, masks, video, and voice to create visual worlds and theatrical happenings. Her interest in poetic and episodic forms allows her dances to sometimes misbehave as film or collage. Her work has been seen in Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery, Mana Contemporary, Links Hall, and Hamlin Park Theater, as well as in New York City, Mississippi, and Mongolia. For the last several years, "The Humans" has been creating an evening-length piece with a working title of A Series of Dad Dreams that is conjured and remixed from images and stories of Rachel's late father’s life. She has always used writing as a companion to her dance-making and has recently started publishing this work.
