Karen Azarnia is an artist, educator, and curator. Born in Miami, FL, she currently lives and works in Chicago. Her work explores relationships between people, home, memory, natural life cycles, and the basic human emotions that connect us all including love, loss, vulnerability, and resilience. She has exhibited nationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions including the Visual Arts Gallery at Governors State University, Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Chicago), Heaven Gallery, Terrain Exhibitions, and Young Space, Brooklyn. Her work has been included in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, and Newcity.
She currently teaches in the Painting and Drawing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the Director of the O’Connor Art Gallery at Dominican University, River Forest, IL. She holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
