Julia Cox grew up dancing at the Academy of Movement and Music in Oak Park while performing and choreographing with MOMENTA Dance Company. After attending Northern Illinois University on scholarship under Randall Newsome and Judith Chitwood, Julia became a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher. She later completed her Master's in the Science and Psychology of Teaching Pilates under Chantill Lopez and Anne Bishop and was recently certified in Pilates for Neurological Conditions through Mariska Breland.
In 2011 Julia stopped dancing unexpectedly and developed a number of health conditions leading to disability. In 2019 Julia was lured back into MOMENTA by previous artistic director Stephanie Clemens and current artistic director Sarah Najera to dance and choreograph in physically integrated dance pieces. Julia has since performed in the company’s seasonal CounterBalance dance concert and Dancing at a Distance film projects. She also enjoys co-teaching for MOMENTA’S “Every Body Can Dance” workshops. Julia is forever grateful for the continued confidence, love, and support from her MOMENTA family.
