Allison Marie Spicer

Allison Marie Spicer is a practicing visual artist and educator in Chicago. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally with art works delving into themes of nature, the human condition, cycles/patterns of relationships, space + time, the built environment, cultural responses to the old and the new, and social/political theories. Allison was awarded the Artigiana Artist Residency in 2013. She has been a teaching artist in Chicago since 2002, making art accessible to marginalized youth in hospital settings, special education classrooms, Detroit and Chicago public schools, and underserved communities. Her pedagogical development began at the University of Michigan where she received a Liberal Arts Degree in Political Science and Art History. Continuing her studies, Allison earned her Masters of Art Education at the School of the Art Institute Chicago. She later pursued certification as an Aesthetics Education Instructor at the Lincoln Institute of Arts in New York. Select teaching experiences include Snow City Arts, Rush Day School, Columbia College Chicago, Smart Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Marwen, and the Hyde Park Arts Center.
